June 28th, 2009 Congratulations to Ski Ben Hanowski on
being drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third
round of the NHL draft this weekend with the 63rd
overall pick!
The Skis dropped their first game of the season to the
divisional opponent Upsala Blue Jays. See below
for more information. Listen to the VL Roundup
recap
of the action here.
The
Upsala Blue Jays handed the Sobieski Ski's their first
loss of the year with an 8-7 decision in ten innings on
Sunday. Upsala scored three runs in the first
inning, but Jon Czech belted a grand slam in the third
to put the Ski's up 4-3. The Jays retook the
lead in the bottom of the third on a 2-run single by
John Fuchs. With Upsala ahead 6-5 after seven
innings, Brad Czech led off the top of the eighth with a
homerun to tie the game at 6-6, and Sobieski went back
in front later in the inning on a runs scoring hit by
Beau Hanowski. Upsala tied the game at 7-7 in
the bottom of the eighth on Matt Swanson's 2-out rbi
single and they won it in the bottom of the tenth and
again it was Matt Swanson providing the hitting heroics
with another 2-out run scoring hit to win the game. BJ
Lange went three innings in relief to get the win. Swanson
started on the hill for Upsala and struck out eleven
over seven innings.

It's getting to be like a skipping record, but the Skis
hold steady at #2 in this weeks Harballer
Top Ten.
The Sobieski Skis would like to welcome Joey Hanowski to the team.
Brad Czech is the ninth different Ski to win the
weekly MVP award this
year. That makes enough MVPs on the year for a
full starting lineup. Not bad. It wasn't a
run away though, the vote was a close one. See the
numbers here.
